“Use Sellercloud because it’s accurate, reliable, robust, and the customer service would help you through whatever issues you have.”

Josh Williams, Operations Manager

Before Sellercloud

Golf Superstore is a family business that started with one brick-and-mortar store in 1990 and expanded into ecommerce. “We’re part of a buying group rather than a franchise, so we’re able to have the buying power of the larger corporations but still maintain the family atmosphere,” explains Operations Manager Josh Williams.

Specializing in golfing equipment, accessories, and used clubs, Golf Superstore also offers full-service repair. It is recognized as a Golf Digest top 100 fitter, fitting golf clubs for all brands and models. In the retail store, Golf Superstore ensures customers are greeted and fit by experts. Online, Golf Superstore sells on Amazon, eBay, and its own website.

Like many brick-and-mortar businesses operating online, Golf Superstore has one primary location divided into two digital warehouses—a front end for walk-in customers and a back end for ecommerce and bulk storage.

The Challenge

Golf Superstore was struggling with several challenges before they discovered Descartes Sellercloud. Williams tells us how they used ChannelAdvisor to host SKUs across different platforms, and another solution for hosting inventory. “The issue was that we had too many integrations,” said Williams.

Golf Superstore also wanted to consolidate its ecommerce channels and brick-and-mortar store to one platform. That meant they needed an ecommerce solution that could integrate with its point of sale (POS) system, Lightspeed. It was paramount that their POS and ecommerce inventory were synchronized to have a complete picture of what they had in stock.

Another problem Golf Superstore had with their combination of solutions was product management. Every time they had a new product to add to the system, they would need to create it three times—once for ChannelAdvisor, again for their warehouse and inventory management platform, and then a third time for Lightspeed. Williams believed there had to be a better way to do this.

As a seller of used clubs, Golf Superstore was also looking for a solution for grading inventory and tracking products at the bin level. A solution with a grading system was necessary because marketplaces have rules on product quality.

Furthermore, marketplaces have different classifications for items in less-than-perfect condition. What eBay considers ‘used,’ ‘open box,’ or ‘refurbished’ could differ in another marketplace. With so many products in so many different conditions in a large warehouse, bin-level tracking was a necessity.

It was also crucial for Golf Superstore to find a reporting and purchasing solution as they relied on their suppliers’ and sales reps’ reporting when reordering.

It was also crucial for Golf Superstore to find a reporting and purchasing solution as they relied on their suppliers’ and sales reps’ reporting when reordering.

Golf Superstore started to see things improve almost immediately when they deployed Descartes Sellercloud. One of the greatest improvements they saw was how much easier it was to build products. Williams explains how Descartes Sellercloud is the only solution they have encountered that had a direct integration with Lightspeed, cutting the need to create products for multiple separate solutions. “Now it’s one stop. You build it into Sellercloud, launch it on a channel, and you’re done. It cuts so many steps, cuts so much time,” said Williams.

Golf Superstore also uses Skustack, Sellercloud’s Warehouse Management System (WMS). One of the most significant benefits of Skustack is that it makes it much easier for the business to move inventory between its ecommerce warehouse and brick-and-mortar store. “From picking orders to transferring units to the retail store. It’s no more lugging around laptops or having Excel sheets to pull inventory from. Create a warehouse transfer. It’ll tell you exactly what units to transfer,” explains Williams, “It’s so much less time.”

Williams loves that Skustack is available on handheld devices and integrates with Zebra scanners. He tells us how Golf Superstore does a lot of shaft swaps for customers, and with the Skustack-enabled Zebra scanners, they can disassemble product components with just a few barcode scans and sell them individually while maintaining accurate inventory.

Sellercloud also resolved Golf Superstore’s purchasing challenges. “You can run the reports of your purchasing history in what you need. Look forward 30 days, 60 days, 90 days in, auto calculate velocity, and build those POs and instantly push them into Skustack to receive when they get here,” says Williams, adding that POs can automatically be emailed to sales reps and suppliers.

Reporting also dramatically improved with Descartes Sellercloud. They finally had a clear picture of all the data that comes through their channels in real time and with greater context. For Williams, inventory by warehouse is the most helpful report Descartes Sellercloud provides as he can track what’s in the store versus the warehouse and what quantities need to move where. He also regularly uses replenishment reports to ensure they always have enough inventory in the store.

Descartes Sellercloud also enabled Golf Superstore to grade its inventory, track the precise inventory quantity they have for each product grade, and locate each grade at a bin level.

The Results

Since Golf Superstore made Descartes Sellercloud the center of its ecommerce operations, it has improved efficiency and inventory handling enabling them to speed up many of its processes.

Williams says Golf Superstore has always been able to rely on Descartes Sellercloud for support. “Whether it’s emailing into our account manager or just calling the 800 number. They’re always there to pick up,” he says, adding that they have a “really good” relationship with their account manager.

Looking to the future, Golf Superstore aims to continue providing their customers with the best service they can and remain a top 100 fitter for them. Golf Superstore plans to use Descartes Sellercloud to expand to new channels, adopt Shipbridge to improve its shipping operations, and leverage the solution’s custom integrations and workflows. “We know that their team can help with that 100%,” says Williams.

Williams is also confident that now that Sellercloud is part of the Descartes family, it can offer its customers even more than before. He ends with a recommendation to businesses searching for a new ecommerce solution. “I would tell you to use Sellercloud because it’s accurate, reliable, robust, and the customer service would help you through whatever issues you have,” he says.
