“[Descartes] Sellercloud saves me on average three to five hours a day, every day.”

Prosper Mamane, Executive Director, R&Y AC Compressors

Before Descartes Sellercloud

R&Y AC Compressors is a family business operated by Executive Director Prosper Mamane, his cousin Jacob, and Jacob’s father, Roy. They specialize in anything related to the AC of your car, selling to retailers and regular consumers. As Mamane explains, “We provide an aftermarket, affordable solution for people to use in their vehicles outside of an OEM option.”

The business began in the late 80s when Mamane’s uncle Roy opened a repair shop and connected it to an AC shop. He realized that he could get AC parts repaired quicker, and the business would be more profitable. The two businesses grew hand in hand. “We’ve built this company from a small business that was a local AC repair shop to a leading aftermarket supplier in the United States,” says Mamane.

Roughly 20 years ago, R&Y got involved in ecommerce and began selling on eBay. “We went from selling a few items on eBay to selling over 1,000 items a day in the summer, every single day,” remembers Mamane.

The Challenge

R&Y struggled to manage its high order volume, particularly during summer. “On average in the summer, we’re processing 800 to 1,200 orders five days a week here, and on Saturdays, we’re processing about 300 to 400 orders,” explains Mamane. Because of this, their days are exceptionally long, and every minute is vital.

“The day stops when FedEx leaves,” says Mamane. If R&Y doesn’t manage to get all orders shipped between 8 am and 7 pm, they’d have to wait until tomorrow. By the end of the week, the number of orders being pushed to the next day would compound, and they would need to make changes to the store because they couldn’t manage the order volume.

R&Y was using a traditional order management system, but it was not suitable for their workload. They would receive orders from marketplaces and print them out. The process was tedious, and hours would be lost before orders could be picked. Mamane tells us how warehouse staff would often have to wait around two to three hours for things to be arranged—time that could be better used for other tasks.

While R&Y has a unique offering in a niche industry, the landscape was becoming increasingly competitive, with new sellers appearing with similar offerings that weren’t around a few years before. It was becoming more critical than ever to ensure they had an edge over their competitors and could keep up with orders.

The Solution

When Mamane discovered Descartes Sellercloud, he was looking for an ecommerce solution to manage all R&Y’s orders in one place and automatically assign items to the appropriate teams within his warehouse. The solution needed to be customizable, and Descartes Sellercloud was the perfect fit.

Implementing Descartes Sellercloud eradicated manual processes and saved R&Y a colossal amount of time. “[Descartes] Sellercloud saves me on average three to five hours a day, every day,” says Mamane. With those regained hours, R&Y can easily process an additional 200 to 300 orders a day. “There was no more doing anything by hand, no more preparing six different papers. Everything is automated,” said Mamane.

One of the most significant ways Descartes Sellercloud boosted R&Y’s order management efficiency was by automatically organizing their daily orders every morning. “Having the orders organized and ready to go in the morning allows the people who are in charge of the floor more time,” explained Mamane. R&Y’s staff can start working immediately in the mornings and gain time in the afternoon to take on more business.

Descartes Sellercloud also made it easier for R&Y to divide and conquer the workload by ensuring that orders are sent to the right teams. “You click team A, and only the stuff they’re responsible for populates. I can give them that information, so I don’t have to sift through 800 orders and assign that specific set of orders,” said Mamane.

The Results

Improving R&Y’s order management efficiency enabled them to eliminate orders from being carried over to the next day, compounding at the end of the week, and requiring them to make changes to their store. This efficiency also ensured that they would remain highly competitive among their rivals.

Descartes Sellercloud also enabled R&Y to grow its business as it had more time to process orders. For Mamane, getting back all those hours has enabled him to do so many more things that can help the business expand further.

Throughout all their growth with Descartes Sellercloud, R&Y has felt entirely supported. “I’ve been provided excellent support by the team,” says Mamane, adding that whenever he needs assistance, he has always received it immediately.

Mamane explains that Descartes Sellercloud is a vital solution for any growing ecommerce business because of all the time and tools that it provides. He added, “Guys like [Descartes] Sellercloud stand out because they really work at a custom level for any type of business.” Mamane explains how their business operates in a very specific niche with its own peculiarities and that they were able to customize the solution to meet all their needs.

Looking to the future, R&Y aims to improve its inventory and warehouse management with Descartes Sellercloud’s warehouse management system (WMS) Skustack. “Adding their WMS will solve our small inventory headaches,” said Mamane.

Now part of the Descartes family of products, Mamane is excited to see what Sellercloud will be able to offer. “I’m very interested to see what the future will bring,” he said.
