“I chose Sellercloud because it offered the biggest bang for my buck within my budget, and the number of features it had was more than ChannelAdvisor had to offer.”

Ryan Lin, Operations Manager, Scuba Choice

Before Sellercloud

Scuba Choice is a family-owned ecommerce business that has been selling scuba diving equipment online since 2011. As the company expanded its catalog and marketplace presence, internal systems did not scale at the same pace.

Operations were largely manual. Paper purchase orders were used, inventory was tracked by hand, and warehouse organization relied heavily on memory. Reflecting on that period, Ryan Lin, Operations Manager at Scuba Choice, explained, “I think the biggest thing was organization because we previously used paper purchase orders. We just did everything by hand, which made error rates very high.”

At their previous warehouse location, space constraints made inventory management even more difficult. “It was very hard to even find something; you have to memorize where products are, as sometimes even other coworkers might not know,” Lin said. The lack of structured bin organization created delays and unnecessary stress in daily operations.

The company was also using ChannelAdvisor, but it struggled to support their component-based product structure. “We have so many products where product A plus product B equals product C, but didn’t know how to configure this on ChannelAdvisor,” Lin explained. The system felt difficult to adapt to their business model.

The Challenge

As Scuba Choice grew across multiple ecommerce marketplaces, complexity increased across inventory, listings and shipping workflows. High SKU counts, component-based assemblies, and seasonal demand patterns required stronger operational control.

Inventory management was particularly challenging. Without structured mapping between individual parts and finished products, the risk of overselling was real. Inventory deductions were inconsistent, and forecasting accurate reorder quantities was difficult.

Marketplace compliance added another layer of difficulty, as each channel requires specific listing attributes and formatting. “With ChannelAdvisor, we had to guess what was needed because each marketplace has its own requirements for listings,” Lin noted. This guesswork slowed listings and created inconsistencies.

Daily operations became stressful, with manual processes increasing the likelihood of shipping errors and human mistakes.

The Solution

Scuba Choice implemented Descartes Sellercloud™ to centralize inventory, product mapping and marketplace listing management within a single structured platform.

Descartes Sellercloud enabled detailed component mapping. Lin explained, “With Sellercloud, I can map out product A and product B equals product C, and set rules so that product C can’t be sold unless all required components are in stock.” This ensured real-time inventory accuracy and eliminated overselling.

The platform also standardized marketplace listing requirements. “I can export a template that shows exactly what information each marketplace requires and how it needs to be formatted,” Lin said. This removed guesswork and improved listing consistency, especially as a Vendor Central seller seeking a professional online presence.

After Implementing Sellercloud

After implementing Descartes Sellercloud, Scuba Choice experienced measurable operational improvements across inventory management and shipping accuracy.

“Using Sellercloud has greatly improved accuracy by reducing shipping errors and human mistakes over time,” said Lin. Structured workflows reduced manual touchpoints and minimized fulfillment errors.

Overselling was eliminated through component-level inventory linking. Inventory deductions became consistent, enabling improved forecasting. “We’re able to order the right amount every time and then forecast what needs to be ordered,” Lin shared.

The operational improvements also reduced daily stress. “In just a year of using Sellercloud, we’ve experienced a noticeable decrease in the stress associated with our day-to-day operations,” Lin said.

With structured systems in place, Scuba Choice can now focus on growth and automation. “Ultimately I want to automate everything, so that I can focus on other ventures as well,” Lin explained.

Today, Descartes Sellercloud provides the operational foundation that allows Scuba Choice to scale confidently while maintaining inventory accuracy and professional marketplace consistency.
